STANTON — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL REPORT. Stanton is among three Orange County cities participating in the initial October 2026 launch of the Sheriff’s Department Drone as First Responder program.

What the aircraft do

OCSD says drones can reach certain emergency scenes before ground deputies, giving operators real-time observations to help assess an incident. The program may support emergencies and searches for missing people.

Personnel and weapons policy

The city’s notice says the drones are unarmed and operated by FAA-certified OCSD staff. They are meant to assist responders, not replace officers, firefighters or emergency medical crews.

How to examine oversight

The Sheriff’s Department maintains public information about deployments and reporting, and the city links to those materials. Residents can review that official policy rather than assume a drone is dispatched to every 911 call.
